v8 engine in jeep

Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a list of frequently asked questions about our motor mounts to help you decide if ours is the set you want to buy. We realize you have options and we want you to be happy with your purchase.

Q: Do these bolt to the old YJ mounts?
A: No. You will need to remove the old mounts from the frame and drill holes.

Q: What tools are required?
A: An angle grinder with cut-off and grinder wheels, a drill with drill bits, and normal hand tools. No welding is required.

Q: Do your mounts work with a mechanical fuel pump?
A: Yes, you can run a mechanical fuel pump with these mounts.

Q: Do these work with LS motors?
A: No, unfortunately the mounting bolt pattern is different. The LS motor is a different block from the old small block. We may develop LS mounts at a later date but we would want to take the time to actually install an LS motor because we like to thoroughly test everything we sell.

Q: Do these come with instructions?
A: Yes, absolutely! Detailed instructions with diagrams are included in the kit and can be downloaded here.

Q: Will these work with my transmission?
A: Regardless of the transmission you use, these mounts will work. We recommend mocking the motor and transmission up in the jeep with the radiator core and fan installed and then marking where to drill the holes for the mounts. The idea is to place the motor so that the distributor cap comfortably clears the firewall and the fan clears the radiator. Additional space may be gained by going to an electric fan, but ultimately transmission mounting is going to be a separate issue. There can be significant length differences from one transmission to the next and there are numerous automatic and manual options that can vary in length by several inches.

Q: What about replacement parts?
A: The only part that can go bad is the vibration isolators. We currently offer two different models that use two different types of isolators. The rubber isolators are from a 1960s Ford truck and can be purchased from an auto parts store. We will eventually be discontinuing the kit that uses those isolators because the poly isolators are much more popular with our customers and replacements can be purchased from Energy Suspension (part # 9.4102G).

Q: Where are these made?
A: The steel parts are made right here in our own machine and fab shop in the USA with locally procured 3/16” and 1/4” steel. The vibration isolators and hardware are procured from third-party vendors.

Q: Can these also be welded for additional strength?
A: Sure, although it’s not necessary. I am a welder and I’ve been running this set with a very healthy 383 stroker for many years as a bolt-in kit with zero issues. The key is that the anti-crush spacer setup allows you to torque the 1/2″ grade 8 bolts right down without crushing the frame. The result is a very secure mount without welding.

Q: How many of these sets have you sold?
A: Hundreds. And, knock on wood, no customer has yet asked to return a set. Although we gladly accept returns in accordance with our return policy. Visit our policy page for more information on returns.
